ECCHO Mission & Vision:

ECCHO’s mission is to center the voices and lived experiences of BIPOC women and non-binary people to drive policy change and transform local systems of power.

 

Program Overview: 

ECCHO stands for Engaging Communities to Change Health Outcomes. As a new, innovative civic engagement training program, we are committed to community-based leadership and decision-making that centers the views and experiences of those most affected by the issue. By investing in and lifting-up those most negatively impacted by generational and systemic racism in our state, ECCHO aims to increase the civic participation of communities, transform local systems of power, and improve health outcomes.

During a 9-month training program, participants work together as a cohort to design and implement a community-based project that meets the health and civic health needs of their community. To achieve this, participants will attend two mandatory team meetings a month where they will learn about the following topics: 

 

• Civics 101 

• Cultural Safety & Healing

• Conducting Community Needs Assessments

• Social Determinants of Health

• Community Organizing & Advocacy

• Coalition & Power Building

• Storytelling

• Action Plan Development & Implementation

• Project Evaluation & Sustainability 
   

Each cohort is overseen by a Local Program Coordinator (LPC) who compensates participants at $20/hour for their work and provides them with the training and resources they need to successfully implement their project, drive policy change, and transform local systems of power. 

 

While the exact day and time of the mandatory team meetings will be determined by the cohort and their LPC (for example, every other Monday at 6 PM), the tentative dates for each meeting can be found below: 
 

• January 6: Required Training & Orientation Part I (Held in Madison)

• January 13: Required Training & Orientation Part II (Held at Cohort Site): 

• January 22-28: Mandatory Team Meeting #1 (If cohort elects to meet on Mondays, the team meeting will be held on Jan. 22) 

• February 5-11: Mandatory Team Meeting #2

• February 19-25: Mandatory Team Meeting #3

• March 4-10: Mandatory Team Meeting #4

• March 18-24: Mandatory Team Meeting #5

• April 1-7: Mandatory Team Meeting #6

• April 15-21: Mandatory Team Meeting #7

• April 29-May 5: Mandatory Team Meeting #8

• May 13-19: Mandatory Team Meeting #9

• May 27-June 2: Mandatory Team Meeting #10

• June 10-16: Mandatory Team Meeting #11

• June 24-30: Mandatory Team Meeting #12

• July 8-14: Mandatory Team Meeting #13

• July 22-28: Mandatory Team Meeting #14

• August 5-11: Mandatory Team Meeting #15

• August 19-25: Mandatory Team Meeting #16

• September 2-8: Mandatory Team Meeting #17

• September 21: Graduation (Held in Madison)

Because we believe that those most impacted by the problem must be centered in the work we do, we strongly encourage applications from cisgender and transgender women, and non-binary people who are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color.
